This month, Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) is honored to once again partner with Macy’s to bring books and literacy resources to children nationwide. For 18 years, Macy’s has been a committed advocate for children’s literacy, working with RIF since 2003 to ensure that MILLIONS of children nationwide have the opportunity to read, learn, and grow. Throughout the month of July, shoppers can round up their purchases when they shop in store and online!  Every penny donated supports children who are most in need.

This is more important than ever with the devastating impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on children nationwide. Studies show that instructional disruptions, lack of book access, and inequities in resources have had a devastating and lasting impact on reading outcomes. A recent article in the New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/08/us/pandemic-schools-reading-crisis.html) said it best, “Children in every demographic group have been affected, but Black and Hispanic children, as well as those from low-income families, those with disabilities and those who are not fluent in English, have fallen the furthest behind” That is why I am so grateful to have a dedicated partner like Macy’s who is committed to tackling the children’s literacy crisis in America yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Now more than ever, we need to call attention to the issue and work together Until Every Child Reads.
