Reading Is Fundamental and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) teamed up for a second Read & Ride book distribution event and we hit it out of the park!

Kids jump for joy for RIF

Accompanied by Girl Scout Troop #3859, RIF volunteers and staff distributed over 700 backpacks loaded with books, baseball-themed literacy activities and other back-to-school essentials to hundreds of young fans at the Navy Yard metro station before the Nationals double header against the Rockies. We were especially happy to provide 50 members of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area with tickets to the game, courtesy of the generosity of WMATA and the Washington Nationals. “WMATA is excited to join with RIF to highlight the importance of reading to youth riders! Through our co-promotional ‘Read & Ride’ summer events, we are supporting literacy initiatives across the region” said Jawauna Greene, Marketing Director at WMATA.
