Petra and Ollie like different things. Petra likes apples. Ollie likes bananas. Petra likes to swim. Ollie likes to run.
There is one thing that they both like. Animals.
“We want a pet!” Petra says.
“Can we get a dog?” Ollie says.
“No,” their parents say. “A dog is too much work.”
“A dog needs to eat two times a day,” Mom says.
“A dog needs to go outside even more times a day,” Dad says.
Petra and Ollie look at each other. That is a lot of work.
“How about a hamster?” Petra says. “A hamster needs food and water,” Mom says. “It needs a clean cage.”
“How about a fish?” Ollie says.
“A fish needs to eat too,” Dad says. “It needs a clean tank.”
Petra and Ollie feel sad. “We’ll never have a pet,” they say.
“How about a pet rock?” Mom says.
“Or a pet plant?” Dad says.
Petra and Ollie frown. “No thanks,” they say.
Then, they have an idea. “How about we go to the PETting zoo?”
“Yes!” their parents say.
Mom, Dad, Petra, and Ollie spend all day at the petting zoo. They watch the llamas running in the pen. They feed the goats carrots. They pat the wooly sheep.
“Yay for animals at the petting zoo!” Petra and Ollie say. “And yay for no animals at home!” Mom and Dad agree.
