Tooth Fairy Tradition

I check the address. Six Cherry Lane. This is it.

I peek in the window. I’m here to see Annabelle. Is she sleeping?

She is! It’s time. I take out my wand and wave it.

Poof! I zap myself inside. I stand on her bed and get my balance.

Now’s the hard part. I have to get under her pillow and out again. And I have to do it without waking her up.

Whoever decided that lost teeth should go under a pillow was not thinking about us fairies. Yes, we’re small. Yes, we’re magic. But our job is not easy.

A human tooth is the size of my head. Imagine if you had to crawl under a sleeping giant and carry away something the size of your head. Like I said, not easy.

Annabelle sighs in her sleep and rolls over. Now the pillow is even harder to move. I wave my wand again to cast a deep sleep spell. I’m not taking any chances.

I wriggle under the pillow and feel around for the tooth. There is it! A pretty one. It will look nice as part of the wall in Tooth Town.

I pull the tooth out from under the pillow. I get it to the side of the bed and take a rest. Now comes part two. I have to leave the money.

Kids today expect a whole dollar bill. It’s better and worse than the days of change. Bulkier, but much lighter. I unfold it from my pack and slide it under the pillow. Mission complete!
