Hooray for Halloween

The preparations have begun,

You start to notice one by one.

See the cobwebs hung on doors?
See the candy in the stores?

This spooky day comes once a year.

You must get ready, but don’t fear.

You’ll get it done if you take care,

So read on further if you dare!

You pick a pumpkin from the stand.

Mom carves it while you lend a hand.

The Jack-O-Lantern glows so bright.

You put it on your porch at night.

The neighbors put out pumpkins too,

And cauldrons filled with bubbling brew,

While skeletons built out of bones

Creak and clack and seem to moan.

You tiptoe over, but beware,

That you will likely get a scare!

But that’s ok, you are prepared.

It’s fun to feel a little scared.

Back safe inside your house you’re glad

To roast the pumpkin seeds with Dad,

And use some pumpkin spice to bake

A crazy, leggy spider cake.

At school, you have a big parade,

With costumes that were bought or made.

You all join in to march along

And sing a silly, spooky song.

You’re almost ready, one last thing,

It’s time to practice how you’ll ring

The neighbors’ doorbells, or you’ll knock

While walking up and down your block.

You’ll only go to ones with lights,

Which tells you that they’re home that night.

Then when they answer you will shout,

“Trick or Treat!” and they’ll give out

Some candy, stickers, toys, or fruit.

You’ll fill your bag with festive loot.

And then like all polite ghosts do,

You’ll smile and kindly say, “Thank You.”

Now finally it’s all been done.

This holiday is so much fun,

It’s scary, silly, in between

This holiday is HALLOWEEN!
