What if Cinderella Was a Boy?
Cinder Eddie was poor. He lived with his stepfather and stepbrothers.
They were lazy and treated him very unkindly. They made him do all the cooking and cleaning. Worst of all, they made him sleep on the floor by the fireplace.
One day a letter arrived from the queen inviting them to a royal ball. Everyone in the house was invited to the ball, including Cinder Eddie. His stepfather told him that he could only go if he did all his chores. This included helping his stepfather and stepbrothers get ready. He sewed their suits, shined their shoes, and cleaned up after them.
It was time for the ball and everyone was ready. Everyone but Cinder Eddie, of course.
After all, he had nothing to wear. His stepfather and stepbrothers left without him.
Cinder Eddie was sad. But then… Poof. His fairy godfather appeared. Poof. He had a new suit. Poof. He had a ride to the ball.
Cinder Eddie rode the ball in a beautiful carriage. He met the princess and they fell in love. Too soon, the clock struck midnight. Cinder Eddie ran out of the castle before the spell wore off. His shoes did not fall off, however. Men’s shoes don’t fall off so easily.
The princess wanted to see Cinder Eddie again. She didn’t need his shoe to find him. That’s gross. She just asked around about him. She eventually located his stepbrother and was nice to him. (He thought she liked him.) She asked for his address and he gladly gave it to her. (Again, he thought she liked him.)
The princess went to Cinder Eddie’s home the very next day. The stepbrother thought she came for him. Boy was he surprised to find out that she really came for Cinder Eddie.
The princess asked Cinder Eddie to marry her. He said yes. He became a prince. He had lots of fancy suits. He went to lots of fancy parties. He never had to work again. They lived happily ever after.
