CBS 13's Good Day Maine Team Reads to Students to Support Children's Literacy

Channel 13 WGME is a local Sinclair Broadcast Group affiliate in Portland, ME. 

PORTLAND (WGME) – In honor of National Reading Month, our parent company, Sinclair Broadcast Group, is partnering with "Reading is Fundamental" to support children's literacy.

Friday, our Good Day Maine team read to kids in three communities.

Katie Sampson read to kids at Lyseth Elementary in Portland, Jeff Peterson read to kids in Westbrook and Meteorologist Christian Bridges read to kids in Falmouth.

One in three children entering kindergarten lack the basic skills they need to learn to read. Two-thirds of U.S. fourth graders do not read at grade level.

"Sinclair Cares: Supporting Children's Literacy" seeks to create awareness and help get books into the hands of children across the country.
