Jacoby & Meyers and iHeartMedia Join Reading Is Fundamental to Celebrate Los Angeles Learners

Hundreds of children and families visit Boys and Girls Club of Hollywood for a large-scale book distribution and reading celebration event with Reading is Fundamental

Los Angeles, CA – On Saturday, November 18th, hundreds of families celebrated the joy of reading at an event hosted by the nation’s leading children’s literacy nonprofit, Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), where Jacoby & Meyers, voted the #1 Personal Injury Firm in Los Angeles, and iHeartIMPACT, iHeartMedia’s newest community partnerships division, distributed books and literacy resources at the Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood.

Every child at the event was able to select and take home three books to build their home libraries while exploring the various reading engagement activities offered throughout the day. Families participated in read alouds by various authors, including Benson Shum, Carmen Rubin, CJ Charles, Latrice McGlothin, and Lisa Caprelli. Children were also encouraged to channel their inner author to create their own books with input and support from the authors present. Additional activities included a family culture trivia game, bookmarks making station, a photobooth to capture memories, as well as a special appearance from JoJo Wright and the In-N-Out food truck.

“Bringing reading joy to children in communities across our country is at the core of our mission and we could not be more thrilled to be partnering with Jacoby & Meyers and iHeartIMPACT,” said Alicia Levi, President & CEO of Reading Is Fundamental, “to engage and motivate young readers and their families in the LA area.”

"Jacoby & Meyers is proud to partner with iHeart and Reading Is Fundamental to give these books to so many deserving kids in our community today," said Michael Akiva, Managing Partner at Jacoby & Meyers. "We believe everyone deserves access to educational resources that offer more than just stories, but the power to dream, learn and create a brighter future."

Reading Is Fundamental connects children with the joy of reading to spark imaginations and possibilities, putting kids on a path of reading proficiency. Book celebrations are a key component of RIF’s flagship program, Books for Ownership (BFO), and create opportunities for children, educators, families, and communities to come together and celebrate the joy of reading. With reading scores at a 30-year low, based on the 2022 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) reading scores by state, there has never been a more critical time to focus on getting children excited to read.

iHeart is proud to partner with Jacoby & Meyers, Reading Is Fundamental and the Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood to bring new books to LA families,” says JoJo Wright, radio personality on 102.7 KIIS-FM. “iHeartIMPACT’s mission is to improve communities one media campaign at a time, and we’re thankful for Jacoby & Meyers in their commitment to joining us in this goal.”

Book Celebrations are a key part of Reading Is Fundamental’s flagship “Books for Ownership” (BFO) program as they allow children, educators, families, and communities to come together and celebrate the joy of reading. $50,000 in funding from Jacoby & Meyers and iHeartIMPACT supported this community literacy event for up to 400 children and their families, and will contribute to RIF’s literacy efforts across the country. The BFO program relies on a simple yet fundamental truth, if you allow children choice and access, they will become more engaged readers.
